Happy 2012!
I do not like making New Year's resolutions. Maybe it's the pressure (albeit self-imposed) that I can't deal with. Or fear of failing? That's a big one. Sounds awfully familiar. And familiar again. Hmmm...do I hear the sound of a broken record? Ha ha!
I do, however, like making lists and checking them off. So perhaps I'll just make several lists for 2012 instead of resolutions. Now if only I could find some pencil with a point and paper to write them on...
At first I thought that I should include some particular things on those lists here, but really? I still need time to think about particulars. And all of my lists are truly the same every year ...organize the house, meal plan, spend more time with the kids, spend more time with the husband, spend more time reading God's word, be creative every day, relearn to love homeschooling, eat better, eat less, exercise (there I said it!), keep in contact with friends and family...these ideas are very broad and cover a wide wide spectrum. Little by little, I hope to address each idea (and more) this coming year. It'll take that long (or longer) to accomplish.
I think the bestest (as my youngest sometimes slips up and calls it) idea is one that I mentioned in January 2009. A very large command indeed. Something I cannot do on my own. Something that can only be done faithfully through Christ:
You shall love the LORD your God
with all your heart
with all your soul
with all your strength
and with all your mind
and your neighbor as yourself.
~ Luke 10:27
Do you make resolutions each year?
Or lists?
Do you write down particular items or just general categories?

You're right - that is a large command, but by far the most important. I always love the New Year for a new start and setting goals full-knowing I won't keep all of them!

I am not a resolution maker, but I do love my lists! I hope you are having a wonderful new year!

I've given up resolutions and lists in favor of "suggestions". That way I don't feel too bad if I slip up. Your resolution is really the only one that counts in the grand scheme of things anyway. Good choice for us all.

A long time ago, I made the resolution not to make any resolutions. It took the pressure off my shoulders and the gloom-n-doom of failings away. I would always be teased about how many lists I made but things got done. Now...those who teased are making their own lists and I just smile. I also like the verse from Luke...that's the main lesson from our Lord. Hugs...

I just wrote an entry that sounds just like this (I haven't posted it yet -- I'm on the fence with it). But yeah -- I'm not sure I'm doing resolutions, maybe I'm just going to make more of an effort with some things. Your new header is lovely.

I used to be the biggest resolution maker and actually looked forward to it too. I would sit down with pen and paper and seriously write out what I felt I needed to work on for the new year. For some reason, that I have been trying to figure out this week, after the birth of my last two children this need in me has faded a bit more every year. Whatever the reason may be, I am certainly not missing it.
Happy New Year to you. :)
