Yarning along this time is short & sweet: besides the wips (and all that Thanksgiving prep) that I really should be working on, I chose to cast on** yet another little project called Clara's Cowl. It's by Gretchen from he sows, she sews. I had a few problems at first and had to unravel it several times (it was me) and even contacted Gretchen, who very graciously encouraged me to continue. I think all is well. The yarn is from my stash: Sheep Shop Yarn Company (which is defunct now but you can read a little article about the company here).
As for reading, right now, I'm drifting between books... Discover Nature in Winter (one of many in a series) is only one that I'm currently looking at. With winter just round the bend, I wanted to somehow keep all our nature studies going (we're in a nature lull right now ~too busy~too cold) and this one has tips on how to study nature things while outside during the colder months. Still working on Wildwood and still liking it.
** I actually cast this on about a week prior and wrestled with it, but am still working on it when I should be helping to prepare for the big turkey day...
What are you reading and knitting?

Cooking??? I'll start that either late tonight or bright and early tomorrow. Lucky you to have found that yarn in your stash. I love when that happens. Have a super Thanksgiving with all of your kids. Enjoy.

I'm a big fan of the "Discover Nature" series, and have been slowly collecting them all as I find them used.
The cowl looks like it will be wonderfully warm. I hope the rest of it knits up smoothly for you!

I'm going to see if I can get my hands on one of those books. They sound great! Happy Thanksgiving!

I love how the cables look sort of like a rope- very cool!

I'm glad you stuck with it Ellen and continued with the cowl. You know you're my motivator! :) It does look lovely. It's a shame the yarn supplier is no longer in business though, I do like the yarn.
I hope you and your family have a very Happy Thanksgiving.
xx

I have that book too, although I admit I haven't really looked at it much. Sadly, Nature Study is one area that is very lacking in our homeschool. Somehow I just never get around to it.
In my defense, it's kind of hard too because we live in a perfectly manicured urban area with no vehicle during the day...still though, I need to come up with something. I'm hoping that this book will inspire me this winter though. Thanks for reminding me!

Knitting instead of turkey preparations? Sounds ok to me! ;)

That does look like a tricky pattern! Good work on it. Can't wait for the finished project.
