Little Delights

Sometimes it's the little things that delight:

A visit to the local farmer's market for tomatoes, corn & squash. (Can you believe it?  Only my 2nd time this year!)

A reprieve from the warm weather:  cool & crisp. (I hope it stays!)

Free apples (which I'll cut up and freeze for future applesauce)

An unexpected lunch with friends.  (Delicious mashed potatoes, Patsy!)

Katy's grandmother's homemade beeswax salve.  (Since Katy & family live in Australia, they weren't able to return home with the salve (import laws), so I had the good fortune of being its recipient.  We also were left some little acorns and a deer jaw bone complete with rattling teeth.  My boys love it - the jaw bone, that is.)

Anyone know any good sites or books for homemade salve recipes?  Or supplies? 

Sewing for Joy

Well, I finally finished my 2nd mei tai for my friend Joy, who just had her 5th child in mid July.  I asked what colors and patterns she preferred.  "More traditional," she smiled.  Blue. Pink. Beige.  I opted for blues only because I thought Lewis would not appreciate being carried around in a pink mei tai! 

Here I'm modeling it sans baby since all my kiddos are too old, and there's not a baby doll to be found in the house.  The pattern's here.  I didn't include a pocket this time because it seemed as though the pocket would be of little use - it lay too tight against the baby to hold anything.  So no pocket.  But now it's reversible.

Somehow life caught us in its snare...the frenetic pace with nothing of value really accomplished.  Well, okay.  Some valuable stuff has been done, but not as much as was hoped for.  My blog has gone by the wayside (aren't you getting tired of that header?).  My poor sorry garden did not survive: a combination of watery weather, cold feet turning into root rot, and a general, almost purposeful neglect on the part of the gardeners...ahem. 

My small list of to-do items were basically left undone.  Summer began 2+ months ago.  Blink.  Now it's nearing its end, and I don't know how it exactly transpired.

However, new routines will settle in for the autumn and winter months.  Part of me dreads it and part of me is looking forward to it.
